Government Agency and National Laboratory Representatives - Responsibilities and Opportunities
Government representatives are central to the success and scalability of MentorNet, serving the crucial function of recruiting mentors. Representatives sanction the use of employees' time and energy in undertaking e-mentoring, and determine any relevant organizational policies and practices related to supporting employees' participation in the program.
Responsibilities
Recruit mentors
Recruit mentors by getting the word out about MentorNet to colleagues and employees. Mentor recruiting suggestions and materials are available from the MentorNet staff and can be found on the MentorNet web site at: www.mentornet.net/documents/partners/recruiting/recruiting_mentors.aspx. The most popular method is to post an email "Call for Mentors" on organizational electronic distribution lists.
Provide information
Provide background information for the MentorNet web site, thus enabling MentorNet participants, particularly students, to learn about the organization.
Respond to MentorNet requests
Respond to requests for feedback or information from the MentorNet staff and evaluation team. Provide program suggestions and critiques.
Consult, troubleshoot
Be available for consultation or problem solving as needed, including contacting mentors if necessary.
Opportunities
Access MentorNet's Résumé Database
MentorNet's partners have exclusive access to MentorNet's résumé
database. This database allows partners to search the posted résumés of
students participating in MentorNet who are seeking internships or
permanent employment.
The résumé database is accessed through Partners Resource Center, where
representatives can also access statistics and information on
participating mentors. This is a password protected feature; MentorNet
staff will provide a password.
Place items in the MentorNet newsletter (Strategic Partners only)
Representatives of MentorNet's strategic partners have the opportunity to submit notices about their organization and career opportunities for inclusion in MentorNet's monthly electronic newsletter.
